The main aim of IFN is the study and fabrication of advanced devices for photonics, optoelectronics and electronics. Nanotechnologies play a prominent role in these research fields. The combined expertise in nanofabrication, materials and photonics creates a synergy able to compete in this very new and challenging field.


The research fields of the Institute are: - Devices for photonics, optoelectronics and electronics - Laser sources - New materials and characterization techniques - Nanotechnologies, micro- and nano-fabrications - Ultrafast photonics from infrared to X rays - Development and applications of quantum cascade lasers, fiber lasers and laser sensors - Spectroscopic and optical instrumentations from infrared to X rays
